Our Values
Everything we do starts with a why!
Our Vision
Provide enhanced choices for your wardrobe by promoting sustainable slow fashion focusing on quality, style and longevity while preserving the heritage of Indian hardworking artisans and craftsmen who keep hand working tradition alive.
Up until the 80’s, well before these terms became part of common language, upcycling, recycling and hand-me-downs were common in Indian families. We would be super excited to get pre-loved dresses from aunts, sisters and cousins. Old usable sarees were converted to self-designed dresses.
When mighty big brands emerged in the 80s & 90s onwards in large malls with mass produced, cookie-cutter, machine-made garments made from synthetic fibre, it was heart-breaking to see the numbers of hand working weavers and artisans across the country gradually diminish, as in other similar professions. The vast treasure of craftsmanship and artistry has started to erode and whole communities are affected. Real handworked cotton clothes are becoming unaffordable and mostly made in the Global South, where labor is commonly exploited unfairly, even today!
It is time for each one of us to take inventory of our wardrobes and reflect upon how many clothes we have, never worn more than once and some never worn! What can we do to minimise our wardrobes and promote sustainable slow fashion?
We, at Studio Manjusha, with our passion for Indian handwoven textiles, will try to contribute and uplift our weaver clusters by working to create exclusive designs by curating natural fiber and bring our sustainable clothing brand to people in our country and across the globe.
